2025 edit: go here for somewhat of a solution

Original:

Tl:dr not plug and play

Figured id post this as a separate thread rather than being lost in a discussion reply.

After looking further into it, it appears that the oem LED mazda headlight housings with the eyelid strips and all the fancy design has a 14pin connector vs the oem Halogen housing with has a simple 6 with two vertical slot looking holes in the connector female end which would be in the light itself.

Its strange that we always saw posts about it since 2015 but never had any confirmation of actual conversions being done which wouldve brought this issue to light. Halogen users usually upgraded bulbs to led rather than entire housing which makes sense considering it costs a grand+ for new from mazda.

Ill post pics later since on phone and will probably order one this spring to work on a conversion cable and document a how-to when the time comes.

Incase anyone is wondering why this matters, well it only does for us unfortunate OEM led mazda owners. The oem led housing isn't service able without extreme measures and cutting, soldering etc (since anything is technically repairable jf you cut deep enough). But for average diy or headlight bakers it's still a hard step above average lights. Mazda made these disposable to sell you a new one.DONT EVER BUY USED because you don't know how much life is left on the OEM leds and could die tomorrow and you'd be out of 400+ a side. The ideal solution was to downgrade to halogen housings and have a replacable bulb but as a glance upon ebay listings connectors showed me, that isnt happening without modifications to the plugs.

In the meantime if anyone has wiring diagrams of the harness to PM me it would help the process when the time comes but eitherway its gonna get done, stay tuned(y)

Interesting info, thanks! My 2016 has the LED's and no problems so far. But it sounds expensive IF I have a failure. I do love the LED headlights they are so much better than the halogens on my Nissan Frontier...

damn the time is slowly catching up then for the rest of us lol. I havent had time to get around to it since was preoccupied with a full suspension redo on another vehicle slowly. I did however since posting this buy two exact plugs that matched the ends to both of these plugs but are basically bare plugs no wires or terminals in them so it requires a full wiring and crimping wire job. I have some research on other mazda conversions others have done but not the same as ours since we dont have turn signals or hid balasts wiring for out headlights.

Ill share some links and pictures when i get back and while its something im gonna do a write up about eventually i cant get to it now sadly even to experiment mainly because my front rally lights+bar basically blocks me from removing the bumper easily to poke around the terminals to figure out what does what :/

One more thing to note which im not sure if it effects us is the led headlights have the whole self leveling light feature when you take turns oe hills you mightve noticed the light beams basically change level a bit. Some mazda cx5(i think?) owners said they got a error light for the automatic light leveling when they tried to rig something else. Again idk if this will hit us but worth looking into when the time comes

If youre fully set on doing a replacement you can order a halogen replacement and do a temporary dirty split off wirejob on the headlight power and neutral to just powet the headlight and not worry about the "drl mode" or highbeam for now. Downside is itl require poking around with a voltmeter to what does what in the meantime

Peek at this in the meantime for what's involved

Yea sucks that i need to buy an actual halogen headlight now to try all of this and pray the wire colors are similar since some "refurb" models use new wiring (different or all one color wiring) to the harness :/

More awkward news worth mentioning so others dont fall into this trap. I contacted 4 different seller listings on amazon and a bunch more on ebay and apparently the "new replacements" are just the headlight body no wiring which sucks since we still need the bulb harness at least to work with the new bodys. Ebay might be the best option here if you can find a used one with wiring still on it but damn its rough finding this with the halogen wiring. About ready to try a dealer at this point for the wiring lol.

6 or 7th(?) pic here shows the rear wiring which is alot more simpler than i imagined but can also reveal where in the plug they go to for the harness transfer for anyone looking at this in the future.
For now I only see 4 necessary connections, 1 black ground for all lights and 1 highbeam power, 1 low beam power, and i guess a corner light power. We'll see if it does any drl or other functions when things come in. This looks alot simpler than i thought and i only thing left is hoping no errors on our internal side due to missing parts from the led headlight set such as auto leveling etc and another functionally for burnt light that some claimed to have.

Small update. Managed to get a set of "tyc" branded ebay lights with actual wiring included. Always check with the seller because you need that halogen wiring if converting. Downside now is i just got swarmed with irl work so ill try to find time to do conversion tests in upcoming weeks on days off and report back.
