Hi

I have the 2016 Mazda CX-3 GT with 18" 215/50R18. I'm looking at smaller winter tires with rims but not sure if that's even a possibility. Has anyone installed smaller winter tires on their GT's and if so, what size tires and rims did you get? Or should I just get 215/50R18 winter tires and pop those on my alloy rims?

Is it even possible to find that size tires? I haven't been able to find any other tire of that size other than the OEM Mazda tires. I'm interested as well, not just for winter tires but tires in general. What do I do if I need to replace tires and don't want the Yoko's?

Well I couldn't find any other 18 inch summer or all season tyre than the exact Toyo Proxes fitted at the factory. It seems it's unique to the CX-3 at the moment. However, somebody, either on this forum or the UK forum had contacted Toyo (or maybe Yoko') who said that one was under development. My 16 inch tyres have really softened the ride but are otherwise very comparable. There are tons of choices in the 215/60/16 winter tyres here. It also gets those rimes up from hidden edges and curbs under the snow. The TPMS synced perfectly first time too.

I myself just slapped on new steel wheels and snows. i got 16in steels 6.5 wide with 205/65/16 snow tires (mine are blizzaks ws80) 16 is the smallest i could go as i actually tried putting 15 alloys that were laying in the shop and put it on for giggles and maybe hoping i could reuse my pirelli 195/65/15 from my honda i lost but no dice. there should be plenty of choices in 205/65/16. I personally would go a little narrower than stock for snows (205 or 195) as its easier for the tire to cut through snow than the wider stock tire width.

also i would try to avoid using the stock alloys as at least here in Wisconsin with the weird salt and use of salty cheese water (that water that the cheese floats in) corrodes mazda alloys real bad.

Hi Apiary,

We have a CX-3 GT and purchased the Mazdas OEM 17inch rims (M008) from the dealer. We went one size down. Also, got the Michelin Xi3 winter tires (215/55/R17) from Costco when they were on sale. Very happy with both the rims & tires :D

I will try to post a picture later today ;)

You can change the pads without taking the wheels off!

Look up on www.TireRack.com for best selection of wheels and tires. Discount Tire sells tires cheap but their wheels are poor, ugly, heavy, and over priced.
I got mine for both Miata Club and BMW 328xi for $950. Bridgestone Blizzak WS-80 mounted on Sport Edition A9 wheels.

You can also have Satin Sliver, aka dark chrome similar to 2016 Miata wheels.
The Blizzak WS-80 are so grippy my Miata can climb up a frozen slope without a single slip to activate DTC.

I went with cheap steel 16" wheels from the dealer and Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 215/60r16s. I'm sure there are better deals and definitely better looks out there, but the dealer was quick and easy. I run the same tires on a Subaru Outback that's fantastic in the snow, will be interesting to see how the CX-3 compares.
