So after reading lots of articles and watching various videos, I still have not been able to 100% answer this question. I recently took delivery of my Mazda CX-3 2.0 SP in south east asia (gran touring in the US) and I'm not 100% sure if I got the 2017 model year or the 2018 model year. The one thing that makes me think it is the 2018 model year is the full color HUD. Is there anything that I can check to find our for sure which model year it is?

Welcome to the forum. Your question is very broad and difficult to answer. Mazda offers a variety of features across each market - there is no consistency as to what is offered in which package and where its sold.

You can decode your VIN. There are several online tools that break down what the VIN translates to. Two letters = the model year. Also, all of your sales documentation should have the year listed in many places - or at least it is in the US.

Great! Thanks for the information. I'll try the VIN method. Its true that its difficult to find correct information on features specific to a certain location and model year.

Also, in some markets, the model year is the year the calendar year car was built, which further adds to confusion. For example, in the US market, the 2018 model year started in summer 2017 and runs through summer 2018. 2018 cars sold in the US in September 2017 may be considered 2017 models elsewhere in the world.

The VIN would give the most definitive answer on what model year the car is for the market it was originally sold in.

Thanks everyone for your inputs, My steering wheel does look like the one in the attached image but I will also definitely check out the VIN method once I get a chance. The reason I wanted to know which year it is was because I wanted to know if it came with GVC, I don't suppose there is a setting I can check in the MZD connect to see if this feature is integrated?

I tried this some months ago but didn't find it very useful. It did recognise my car as a Mazda CX-3 made in Japan - I kind of knew that - but insisted it had been built in 2001 and probably now done 253,000km. I'm well short of that lol.

A cx-3 from 2001?! That must be a pre-pre production!

By the way is there something different with the made in japan cars? I'm quite certain mine is made in Thailand as that is where I bought the car so it would be interesting to hear if there are any subtle differences.

For European (U.K.) CX-3's the 10th position of the VIN, which would normally indicate the 'Model year or calendar year', is a dummy and so no model year or calendar year info. can be deciphered from the VIN code.

I'll see if I can find a document for South East Asia VIN's, but if I can, it may well be the same.
