Hi All,

Managed to get around to polishing and Waxing my CX-3 as I usually do once a year.
It was a blistering hot summer day (December 2018).
While I was at it I also installed an after market armrest.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/For-Mazda-CX-3-Center-Console-Car-Cup-Holder-Storage-Box-2015-2018-Armrest-Dual-Leather/32902467570.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.7a974c4duvI5HP

Armrest, noting fancy, and easy to install, does take up one cup holder (gets covered). The other will hold a bottle, depending on how far forward/back you slide the arm rest.
The look and feel matches my interior (red sticking and black leather). Does feel a bit flimsy on the install as it simply just pushes in place, so I added some additional foam two-way tape for peace of mind.
Also the cushioning under the leather is very thin, so it not thaaaaat comfortable/soft, but it looks like with some effort it can be opened and re-padded).
All in all, I'm happy with it, solved my storage needs (contains a shallow shelf and one deep storage area).

Now the Polishing:
Brief summary:

Washed the car (hard wash) more aggressive car wash soap, then rinse.
  1. Clay bar done after (did not dry the car after the wash.
  2. Soft wash to condition and remove any excess clayed stuff.
  3. First wax - Meguiars Carnauba, buffed out etc, took a break, 15mins.
  4. Second wax - Waxco Metallic, buffed out, break .
  5. Third polish - Nu Finish, easy to apply and remove (first time using this one) synthetic polish, so I used it on the glass too, buffed out, went to have lunch. All Buffin and application was done using an orbital polisher.
  6. 2 hrs later, Applied Meguiars Paint protect, by hand and removed by hand. Applied to all plastic trim outside (bumpers, grill, dipped badges etc) not applied to glass!!
Month later, and currently not disappointed... Washing the car is more like hose down with a foam sprayer (no sponge washing, literally just a spray), rinse, then dry with a microfibre towel. Done.

Results attached :)

Logic aside - A clean car drives better than a dirty one.
I know this to be true will all vehicles I have owned ( although there have been some good mud moments)

Looks great - give us an update on the armrest after usage !! RE: flimsy

Will do that, got some long drives coming up and I'll be able to assess all the aspects:
Comfort
Functionallity
any squeaks/rattles
If there's anything else that people want to know, post it and I'll add it to my list of observations.

But so far so good, storage wise it's great.
The lack of lifting it up to keep it out the way may be an issue for some, but it does slide back fully ( only an issue if there's 3 people in the back seat).

Hi Zechariah - My 2017 has the crummy arm rest with no storage. Can this aliexpress armrest be installed? The pictures only seem to show consoles without any armrest at all. Thanks!

Do you think the armrest will install in my 2017 that already has the crummy armrest? Pictures don't seem to show one like mine. Thanks

Hi 5string,
I'm not sure which armrest you are referring too.
I'd imagine if you have an arm rest aleardy, then you'll need to remove that one first.

I can tell you that the one that I have installed fits into the small storage space behind the hand brake (and covers 1 cup holder). Literally just slides in and is held in place with some rubber/foam pads. So it can also be removed if you pull it out.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm...OK, on my 2017 GT there is no small storage space behind the hand brake, actually there is zero storage anywhere but there is a flimsy built in armrest which would obviously have to be removed - but doesn't appear to be removable. I will have to assume that the armrest you installed requires a different setup than I have. Got the car used, so maybe this was an option? Maybe it's just on the GT?
There's even a picture in their ad that shows the storage you refer to and says "Make sure look like this".
Thanks anyway, I might check with the dealer and see if there is a way that the armrest can be removed.

Did some digging, looks like that type of armrest covers up the storage space that I was referring to. So underneath that would be the area that fits the armrest that I am using.
I did come across, this thin flimsy looking type, but I didn't want to try it as it required some semi-permanent fixing(screws and bolts). Also I wanted the extra storage space inside.

Long term verdict:
It's been just over 3 months using the install armrest.
No issues, there were some tiny squeaks, however I just added some extra foam to seat it more firmly.

So all in all, I'm pleased with the item and the usability.

FYI, the polishing/washing job is also still gleaming. Impressed with the 'once a year' polish and the Paint sealant.

Hi Peeps,

Late post here, got around to doing the annual polish.
This time used turtle wax cleaner, then applied meguairs NXT polish.
Great product, and I only applied it once.
It was a blazing hot day 36DegC, so all done in the garage.
