Hit: Mazda CX-3: Take the HR-V, add some attractive styling, an interior that looks better than some German luxury brands and subtract the stick. Now add the incredible 6-speed Skyactiv automatic, instead of a CVT. I’d say you’re coming out ahead. But of course, it won’t match the HR-V’s volume.
perhaps in terms of pure appearance, but touch points I doubt that... quite the compliment regardless...

German interiors are nice but not spectacular. I'm okay with saying that the Mazda CX3 has a nicer interior than the German brands. I think the CX3 has a more interesting interior than the Germans. German interiors can tend towards being pretty mundane. Nice, but mundane.

This is the 1-series interior for comparison.

Its alright looking, but pretty boring to me. I can see how someone would prefer the Mazda interior to this. I do.

Pretty sure if you were setting in it, the better quality materials in the BMW would be apparent. But I somewhat agree. The Mazda looks simple and clean and modern. The BMW? Busy. Too many different textures , pieces and design elements. A photo flatters the Mazda better because you cannot reach out and feel it and make a direct comparison. But so what? Who sits around feeling their dashboard anyway?

The BMW is way more expensive, so its maker is not forced to make some of the material compromises inherent in a much cheaper car. The trick for Mazda was to make those compromises so they do not show up more than absolutely necessary. I think they succeeded.

As far as design I do think that the Mazda interior is better. The materials issue is understandable and has been brought up in reviews. Considering the price difference though, I think Mazda comes out on top.

BMW interiors are good but not great. I just don't find them very creative or engaging. Mazda is a brand that has a bit more style and energy to it IMO.

I'm not a fan of the black and white seats in the CX-3. And red is my least favorite color, so the red trim is not working for me either. Anybody know if there will be any different choices, either in seat color, or trim color?

Layout yes, materials no... Slight digression, but a Mazda luxury brand would be kinda cool just because they have such great design, coupled with quality matierlas (not that they don't use them, I'm saying Mercedes quality)...

I would figure that you would be able to choose some different interior colors because red won't really match with every color that Mazda offers on the exterior.

red would indeed look a bit weird with some exterior colors, but at least they way they included red on the interior... it will likely go better with most of the color pallet than another interior with red would.

Your only seat color choices are Black or Parchment. We drove a Soul Red with Parchment interior which I thought looked very nice, my wife wasn't so sure. I don't think there are any other choices for trim color. I've seen pictures of a blue CX-3 interior and it had the red trim. I don't think that works as well. I wouldn't really call the color red, it's more of a darker maroon.

One thing i wouldn't mind is some mix of dark blue fabric with black, much like what the new Scion iA (Mazda2-based) has going on. It helps even more that the iA has a Mazda interior ;)

Yeah this is a big design aesthetic failing of the CX-3. Subdued red interior accents in cars with non-red exteriors. I Guess it worked out cheaper this way. I would expect that of Honda but not Mazda. Kodo design fail.

I like it. Much preferable to all black. In addition, I would like to see the red extended to the lower dash panel , seat and door inserts in the touring model. It would be great if it could be done in colors matching the exterior, but no one offers that many interior color options.
I think the red trim interior with blue exterior would be smashing.

Guess there is no way to please us all.

Does the red trim come on the Sport model as well?

Mazda took the wring shortcut on that count.

I like a red, white and blue mix, but on my flag.

I'd prefer a combo of black and a neutral charcoal grey to inappropriately placed red.

No idea about internal red accents on the Sport but it certainly is on the Touring.
