Mazda is bringing three 'Racing' concepts to the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon; while none are officially MazdaSpeed concepts, they could be early previews of things to come.

The one we're most concerned with is the CX-3 Racing concept.

Mazda has given it an aero kit with red accents to go along with massive black alloy wheels with matching red accents. Other visual changes include a rear roof spoiler and lowering springs.

Inside you'll find Alacantara inserts in the dash and door panels which compliments the full Alacantara upholstery.

Unfortunately performance upgrades are scare if present at all. Visually the CX-3 meets the criteria, but the question is if Mazda will actually go ahead and follow all the way through with a properly hot MazdaSpeed CX-3.

I hope they fine tune the steering response and suspension for the mazdaspeed edition, if true. It would give the WRX a good run.

I find on our CX3s both steering and suspension is more geared towards comfort (rightly so) than sportiness and can be a bit numb during spirited driving.

Hope the MSCX3 would also come with the 2.5L and 6MT. That would grab my interest.

Maybe Mazda will talk about performance upgrades at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Can't see it being just an aesthetics upgrade.

perhaps that new turbo charged skyactive engine that has been in the works will make its way into the speedcx3. it would be perfect if they decide to keep it a 2.0 and with all that room a turbo will fit just nicely with a top mount intercooler. i would totally grab one in a heart beat in jet black.

I wish the Kuroi Sports trim kit was available in the US. I also wish these little bits of plastic didn't cost $250-300 each. It's just insane to me that they charge so much for plastic parts. Even half that price seems ludicrous for something that has to cost maybe $10-20 each to manufacture.

More with Less

I would like the 2.0 liter engine with a lower boost that could run on regular lower octane fuel. My current ride has a small displacement turbo charged engine that runs on 87 octane regular gas.
After years of owning turbo 1.8 or 2.0 liter VWs and Audi's, both diesel and gas,
I would relish an up powered CX-3 with turbo, or highly tuned non-turbo, that would run on 87 octane fuel. :D
I know gasoline is cheap now, but don't be short sighted, the oil companies will soon remove that feature and raise prices higher.
It will be interesting to see if Mazda produces an up-powered CX-3, or just goes for looks with no pop!:(
