I have not had the time to look into this for our cars just yet being that I just got the car last night but I was wondering if anyone has installed a catch can in our cars as of yet. I'd imagine it would be ideal to not be vented and contain an internal baffle material of course.

Not something I would ever see on a CX3. Some in the forced injection community use catch cans so they can run "cleaner". They've always been controversial.
So whats it do ???

Oh right. My diesel hasn't burned one molecule of oil in 3200 miles as far as I can tell which suggests that there isn't a lot of blow by in the cylinders. How are you guys getting on for oil consumption in the petrols, sorry gas engines?

Just on 2000km in my petrol version and not a drop used that I can detect on the dipstick. Mazda service guy told me that a little bit of oil use in both petrol and diesels is not out of the question. He suggested around 500 to 1000ml was not uncommon in the first 10000km but should fall to zero after that. Don't know how true this is as this is my first Mazda.

The 1.5 diesel is brand new and I was half expecting it to use oil. It's been a pleasant surprise in that respect.

Initially I thought it was something that only "high performance forced induction" cars had to invest in but surprisingly a lot of naturally aspirated hyundais and nissans both 4 and 6 cylinders and some mazda3s (since I was around their forum) as I recently looked around into still catch blow by from the pcv valves. I imagine theres plenty of other examples but these are just the ones from experience I can attest to. It is an emissions thing where they recirculate oil and fuel vapors and such back into the combustion chamber to burn it off entirely. Not sure if that is the case with these engines as well but given the strict emissions restrictions here in the states, I would imagine a similar setup is in place.
