newspaper writes today here in Denmark that Mazda recalling about 2.2 million cars because of a lacquer mistake! 1.8 million are sold outside of Japan, and 400,000 have been sold in Japan.
It is also said that among the models 3 and CX-3, and should be about incorrect application of paint to, among other the tailgate.
It is likely to cause rust problems if not taken care of it.

The TSB suggests its just a paint thickness issue. Good on them for following it up. TSB attached (for CX-5. No mention of CX-3 on this bulletin)

This article suggests the problem on CX-3 relates to the dampers that hold the liftgate up. Also an unrelated engine control module issue with the diesel engines. I'm guessing this is related to the emissions stuff that has been going on with diesels which has been in the news so much in the past year. The official statement relates to soot build-up, which may be true, but call me a skeptic.
