My blind spot monitoring works perfectly fine in day light but in the dark is gives me false alarms consistently, is this usual? It is only happens on the right mirror

No, that's not usual.
Since it uses radar, it doen't care if it's day or night.
The only odd activations I get on mine, is when I indicate to turn left (mostly ar roundabouts) and there's a car behind me other than that it works perfectly and has done for 4 years.

I agree, it should work day or night. Mine has worked flawlessly since I had the car new, day or night. If mine goes off there's definitely a vehicle next to me.

Make sure the rear side panels behind and over the rear wheels are clean and unobstructed, if they are check with your dealer.
