Hello guys,

My keyfob is not being detected by the car when outside. I am pressing the keyless button entry but the car is not opening. The only way I can open the car is by using the key fob button. The key fob is being detected inside the car and the car starts normally but the red key light indicator in the dash lights up. This has happened to me twice already. The first time this happened, I replaced the key fob battery, thinking that this was the problem. This problem happens when it's raining here in the SFO bay area. After the rain and when everything dries up, the keyless entry works again like normal. Is there anyone here experiencing the same thing? How did you fix this?

Thank you!

Do you have any wireless alarms or strong radio signals? Does it do it in any location?

Maybe a faulty battery in the fob? I have had Lithium cells fail early a few times before. If you take the fob to your dealer they should test/replace the battery and check the effective signal strength of the fob.

Will it open from the passenger door in the rain?

Any of the doors won't open when I experienced this unless I use the keyfob unlock button. And I just replaced the battery last January.

I'll have a trawl through the TSBs but I suspect it might be a dealer job. The push buttons are a simple make or break switch so I wonder if water is shorting them out. Do any of them look in any way damaged, including the ones on the back door?

did you get two fobs with your car ?
If they both have the problem, likely the car.
If only one has the problem, then the fob.

the keyless entry buttons look fine. same with the keyfob. I tried both and the car still did not open. I suspect that shorting comes from the proximity sensors below the car. Would you guys know if they are exposed? A stone could have hit them, damaging the whole system.
