I just purchased a 2019 cx3. After driving it off the lot and getting it home, I noticed that there was a strong burning smell coming from under the hood. The car has 150 miles on it. Nothing appeared to be charred or damaged under the hood, but I’m worried. Is this smell something that is common on new cars or should I bring it in for service?

Common enough. Mazda (and most other foreign car makers) apply a protective coating to the engine components before shipping to North American markets. When you first use the car and for a few weeks later you can detect a burning chemical smell as the coating burns off. Nothing to worry about but a admittedly a bit concerning. If it lingers for much longer, I would take it in and have the service folks trace it down.
