I bought a card online. It worked fine. I downloaded Mazda Toolbox. It said that my registration was good through 2019 and I needed to make a copy.
The copy failed immediately because of "Backup Error On USBC'.*"

I put it back in the car and it says my SD is invalid.

I have contacted the seller, but am not optimistic.
I am guessing that Mazda Toolbox saw it as a fake card and trashed it.
Is that correct, or could something more innocent be going on?

That's a bummer but maybe it is something that the seller should rectify.I bought mine on eBay without a problem and maybe it is a legit card that's corrupted.
It's a long shot but I would try it in the computer again just to see what happens.

The vendor got back to me; I should have waited for 80 miles before trying to copy it. Is that documented anywhere? I checked the CX3 manual, the navigation manual, and the information on the Mazda toolbox, but there is no mention of waiting before trying to copy. If copying too early trashes the card, it should be mentioned!

They also said that someone with more expertise would contact me Monday.

I only drove around the block and put it in the computer and your card could have been legit but was corrupted sd cards do get corrupted at times.

They say that the card was locked because I tried to duplicate it before I put 80 miles on it. They will send me a replacement when I return it.

I am not sure how that makes sense, but I don't have a whole lot to lose at this point.

I looked at the Mazda Toolbox app and the Help section. Found a "HOW-TO GUIDE: How to identify and register your Infotainment System with Mazda Toolbox?" where it mentions a site Toolbox uses to link to your user profile, site is called Mazda-na.Naviextras.com

If you click on the Free Updates link on this site you'll be taken to a page where there is the following text :-

"To be sure your Mazda Connect always has the latest updates, use the Mazda Toolbox to view and download available updates and content, including complimentary map updates for three years, commencing when the vehicle has traveled 100km (63 miles) with the SD card inserted. These map updates will be released twice each year in the autumn and spring."

So maybe this is where the mileage query has arisen?

It still should not have killed the card.I bought the card off e bay and tried to update it before I put it in the car it just would not recognize it.
I drove around the block and put it in the computer and everything was fine.I did have over a thousand miles on my cx3 but there was not a sd card in the info unit at the time so I find this strange.

I think that this copy thing make sense. If car locks the card after 100 km, it must write something down to lock it and that you cant use in the other car. If you could copy it before it is locked you would have two brand new cards that you could use it in two differetn cars. So making copy of brand new card must somehow destroy it so you dont make illegal copys.

lol it's not illegal guys. I wouldn't recommend most people do what he's offering but it's no different from rooting a phone or something. Obviously he's running scripts to change the software, so you may not be able to update the Mazda Connect software later, or if you update it might undo the changes that guy is doing.

Think of it this way, modifying the software to unlock extra features is like modifying your engine to get some extra power.

I don't know, but I presume the maps are copyrighted. He is distributing them (presumably) without authorization.

But you never know; Mazda could be picking something up on the transaction and authorizing it. First they get some revenue from people too cheap to buy a real card, and then they get to charge for fixing the software.
