Wondering if anybody knows the dimensions of either the rear hatch opening, or the interior cargo space (with rear seats folded down).

I want to compare measurements with my '97 Toyota Rav4. The Toyota rear hatch opening is approximately 40 inches wide, and 41 inches tall.

To increase cargo capacity, I removed the rear seats from my Toyota. The length from the front seat backs to the rear of car is around 60 inches (1524 mm). Width and height is around 40 inches (1000 mm).

Any Australian, Japanese, or Australian owners care to take some measurements? Would be most appreciated....

A recent review from Canada answers some of my questions:

First Drive: 2016 Mazda CX-3 - Autos.ca

The cargo area measurements are:

1000 mm (39.4 inches) wide
785 mm (31 inches) depth to rear seats
1440 mm (57 inches) depth to front seats
534 mm (21 inches) height to the cargo cover

The sound insulation part brought a smile to my face as with vehicles like these you can't expect much when it comes to that.

Another byproduct of the thicker sheet metal for body panels like the front floor, tunnel and rear wheel wells is sound insulation, complemented by more sound-absorbing materials in the interior trim that make this a reasonably quiet ride compared to some other Mazda products that struggle in that area.

I also have a RAV 4 (2004) and use it to transport 1 or 2 road bikes. I, too, removed the rear seats and am able to transport 2 road bicycles standing upright once I remove the front wheels. I am wondering if I will be able to do this in a CX-3 which I desperately want, but sadly doubt that I can. The numbers I see here have the RAV cargo opening with at 41" vs 39.8" in the CX-3, which is fine. But the height of the RAV cargo opening is 40" (so easy to slide the bikes in) but do I read this correctly, that the height of the CX-3 is just 21"?????? That's just doesn't seem right. That's actually more a "slot" than an opening. Am I wrong here (and I hope that I am)? If so, what is the height of the rear cargo opening in the Cx-3?

If it is indeed 21", then it looks like I will be getting a CX-5. Damn.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Ah, wait. I just saw a photo in the linked review and it looks like the 21" is the distance between the bottom of the rear cargo area and the lid which, I assume, is removable. What then is the height from the bottom of the rear cargo area to the very top? Anyone know? It looks like it's maybe close to that of the RAV 4.

Thanks.

Thanks MechaBouncer.

The width and depth (with the rear seats down) look fine, but still can't find the overall height number. It LOOKS to be around 36" or so (maybe), but could be less. If you come across the overall cargo opening height, please let me know.

Thanks.

I posted this chart in another thread. It compares the CX-3 to the HR-V in terms of cargo space. Nice to see it relative to another vehicle to put it in perspective.

So 60" with the rear seats folded down, huh? I was curious if it would be big enough to sleep in the back in a pinch. I'm 5'9" or 69" so it sounds like it would be do-able but I couldn't sleep full stretched out. Has anyone tried to sleep in theirs? I know interior space isn't the biggest upside to the CX-3 (which I'm fine with, I like the sleeker styling and look to the CX-3 vs the CX-5, personally), but would 2 adults sleeping in the cargo space be laughable?

I’m looking to buy a CX-3 and would need to occasionally sleep in it. I know it’s 1.35-1.4m long with seats dropped. That’s to the back of front seats. But, what is it if front passenger seat is pushed as far forward as it goes? I’m guessing around 1.7-1.8m but can any owner try and measure please. Can’t find that anywhere on net.
