Just trying to figure how to open headlights.
It looks like older models of glued but I heard that new ones are welded.

Any ideas ?

I want to paint the chrome lip around the front grill but the lip ends inside globe.
Wouldn't be a perfect job if I cannot complete the job properly.

My son wanted to do something similar with the headlights on our Focus. Looked like a humpty-dumpty (all the kings horses.....and so on) part to me, so I made him leave them alone. Bet there is some information somewhere on the web about it though.
Have you tried a search? Unlikely to be anything on the CX-3 but if you investigate other recent Mazda models you might pick up a clue.

If you are really set on doing this you need to take the front bumper off to get the headlights out. You are talking about the trim continuation inside the headlight right? The headlight glass (plastic) does not come off but if you look on YouTube you can find videos on how to unglue them with a heat gun to get inside. You will invalidate the warranty on the light units.

If you still insist, I can give you the instructions on how to get the bumper off.

I'm comfortable removing the front bumper, I did it on my MS3 for a black housing. The 2010-2013 Mazda3 headlight are glued, easy enough to open.

However, I heard that 2014+ Mazda headlight are welded (plastic weld of course).
I know people that used dremel to open taillights (for a tail black housing) but this is not something I am familiar with (obviously, I won't do it on my car if I'm not comfortable to do it).

I know it could void the warranty, but it is still a project, not sure yet if I will make it, just asking you guys in case of...

Yea, I did a quick search but nothing that could help me on that one.
As I say, glued healights are easy to open, but welded are harder...

You should be able to see if the headlight is glued together and even if it is, that might be described as "welded". Pop the bumper off when you get chance and then you can get at the 3 fixing bolts. Keep in mind that one of them is behind that plastic over fender so that will need to be unclipped to access it.

I'm off to work now but I will post up some diagrams later to show where the clips are.

My bumper will come off soon after I get it so that I can apply some wax coating and a second horn.

Sit tight!

To remove those over fenders (at your own risk!);

Remove the 2 clips each side

then tape the wing to stop paint damage.

The clips are as marked. They pop off with a trim tool.

There is a bolt on each wing. You need to pull the fender back to access it.

I usually pour warm water over the bumper to soften the clips in the second thumbnail.

There are various other clips around the bumper. Once off you need to disconnect the electrics

If you are familiar with taking a bumper off, you should be OK but if there is something specific, let me know.
