Sometime tomorrow or on the weekend I plan on updating the sd card with the latest map issue. Since I just got the car last week and the dealer installed the card for me I'm guessing it may not have the latest maps on it.

I already d/loaded the tom tom nav update program on my computer. So when I go to update the sd card is there anything to watch out for during the update?

I take it I would back up the card after the update correct?

Don't want to screw this up and wreck the card if the update doesn't work as intended.

watch for

Traveled at least 100 km.

In no hurry to put back in the car - updates can take some time.

If you use the toolbox backup, it should be good.
If you wish to duplicate the SD card , ensure at least 100 km (it then identifies the vehicle thus only works with your car)
Attempts to duplicate prior to 100 km results in a bad card.

Using the Mazda Toolbox downloaded from their site, backup your card before you carry out the update. This will then allow you to effectively do a restore should the update process go awry. You can always do another backup after a successful upgrade just in case the SD card gets corrupted subsequently.

If the North American Mazda site is anything like that in Europe, I wouldn't expect an upgrade to be that current :( Nor are they that frequent, once a year if lucky.

Thanks guys for the tips. I d/loaded the mazda toolbox program earlier today and got rid of the tom tom one I had done early last week.

I'll give it a shot soon and post here after with the results.

BTW, before I do the nav update is there a way to see what version nav maps I have now on the card?

When you run the Mazda Toolbox software and insert your SD card, if an update is available you should get a message

"Your SD card has been successfully detected and indicated you are eligible for the update programme. Please click on the Install button if you wish to install this update right now."

At that stage I'd advise doing a backup before the install. I can't remember if the software prompts you to make a backup.

Be prepared for a possible long download process once you carry out the update action. For some reason, despite the file size being only 7.5 GB (for the European maps anyway) which even on my relatively standard download connection should take less than a minute, it in fact took around an hour iirc !!! Other UK owners have reported a similar experience.

I think if you run the SD Diagnostics option within the Mazda Toolbox Settings area you should get some more details about the map licence. When I downloaded the latest European map released in September 2016 it only mentions 2015 Qtr4 with no reference to 2016 :(

Start Toolbox, insert SD card, click 'Help' icon, click 'SD diagnostic' icon, click 'For more information click here' link. Look at section titled 'Licences'.

Currently doing the SD Nav card update. I backed up whatever was on the card first then took a look at the licenses on the card and had the info emailed to me from the toolbox.

It's been going a while now and I'm only at 35% d/loaded update......................still have to install once it's d/loaded.

This is going to take awhile.........................:crying:

How do I ensure I run a backup?
After opening up the toolbox and inserting the card in it will want to do an update. Resist the temptation to do so and click the back button instead.

That will take you to the home screen with 3 other options, one of them will be to do a backup. Click that and follow the prompts.

Mine is now hanging on 48% for some time. It still looks like I'm d/loading but the % hasn't changed.

I used Mazda Toolbox to update my daughters 2017 CX-3 SD card last week. No problems. Have put 2 updates in our car since purchase but it appears the updates are done once a year at best. System works great so I can live with that.

Thanks - selecting "back" is not the most intuitive step....

No problemo. Finally updated mine yesterday and sorry it took way too long.

As to what it really updated to I couldn't tell. I might have to find a new road to drive on in my city and see if it shows up or not.
