I wanted to comment on my local dealership's fair pricing of my first service. Or maybe its just to get you hooked! I have used another mechanic to service my old Golfie but decided to go with the Mazda dealership this time. Not only was it fast (45 minutes) but they washed my car (fairly common practice) but the bill was very reasonable. The same or slightly less than Parkside Motors' mechanics.
Labour was charged out at 26.00 and extra for the synthetic 20-0 oil.

I note the labour hourly is 120.00. I am pretty sure the other guys are charging less.

I had my first oil change in Florida at 3K. I just felt that the break-in oil should be gone and car checked out before the return trip to Arizona. Cory Fairbanks got me right in and did a full synthetic oil change for $39.95 and checked out everything. Plus they washed all the road grime off it (really needed that). If you live in Orlando you might check them out.

My goodness that is cheap. You couldn't buy the oil for $40.00 in Australia let alone pay someone to do the oil change and give the car a wash. Must be the US minimum wage!

Interesting. I thought the first oil change being free was an urban myth. Actually I knew that "used to" be the case. I recall my first Toyota had free service for a number of initial oil changes. Back in '78!

Currency is Cad.

My dealer offers the 1st oil change free! But I believe that is a selling dealer perk only. Hence I paid the Florida dealer for my first one. Hoping MY dealer will do my 2nd change free!

First oil change being free = the dealer's incentive for you to buy. it is not a Mazda Corp policy, I know this for sure having worked a year as sales at a Mazda showroom. I've given out free oil changes for a year (max 5 times) because the manager was desperate to get rid of inventory.

It's also a way for you to "try" out the service dept and entice you to return for service.
