I read somewhere that it goes from 62mph in 8.5secs...not bad for a Japanese coupe huh?

That sounds decent if its true. We won't know for sure until the CX3 is released.

I think this is the perfect small-SUV or mini-SUV for urban families. It has room for a dog, or 2 kids and some groceries.

It will certainly save them on gas!
Although that isn't something that really matters to people who will be buying one of these, it's good to know what it could potentially do in a straight line.

the post is from April 2013, I doubt there is a shred of fact to that, not to mention we still don't have official information ;)
That's why i said what it can potentially do, maybe it can do that, maybe it can't. We don't have any solid information on performance now but should see it in the coming weeks.
I'm not expecting the CX-3 to be a super performance vehicle obviously. As long as it isn't boring as sh*t to drive I will be happy.
it's a mazda guys...

do we really need to worry about if it's going to be fun to drive? :D
I can deal with a o-62mph time of 8.2 seconds. It could be a lot worse. I think that still lives up to the "Zoom, zoom" motto.
You're running out of on ramp if thats the actual 0-60 time, the 3 hatch with the 2.0 gets it done in about 7 seconds...
Pedal to the metal! If you were getting this car for good acceleration then you were misguided from the start.

Ok well good luck over taking on the freeway when you put your foot in it and it doesn't go, good luck even merging with highway traffic when you're running out of on ramp.

Good acceleration isn't merely about performance, condescend all you want, but a lack of acceleration can be a serious safety issue. No one is asking for sub 3 second 0-60, but we do want to be able to merge with highway traffic safely and orderly.

Acceleration may not be your defining metric to purchase, but it certainly can be to NOT purchase...

I would expect the CX-3 to be faster than the 3. Same engine in a lighter car.
Is the CX-3 actually lighter? it seems it could be a bit heavier

In another thread I was showing calculations that suggest that the CX-3 would be lighter:

perhaps they turn up the wick on it as well, lighter car, more power, better economy!!

The thing is you almost never are starting from zero.
Yeah well when it comes to how most folks will be driving this, it's going to be from some low rolling speed, no one's doing 0-60 runs in this.
My life flashes before my eyes everytime I try and speed up on an onramp in my Honda Insight...my foot is depressed so hard I think I'll break through...all the while praying some crazy lady who is texting from her leased Mercedes jets up to my slow and ridiculous small engine car and penetrates my car's behind and sends me flying into a ditch........I hate the 1.3 liter engine......maybe if I turn a.C off and put my feet out like the Flintstones car to help it move along, that will solve the near collision from bad lady driver texting and applying her falsies and panty liners in her leased Benz

There are plenty other cars that have worse acceleration that are still road worthy. It seems like a basic requirement of most vehicles for them to be able to merge onto the highway.

Just seems like you are reading far too much into what I had wrote before.

what are speed limits like on the highways near you?
at least with that experience you had their, you know what to look out for next time in a car, let us know what you think of the CX-3 when you finally get to test drive it :D
