So I'm driving along and my engine light turns on and goes into limp mode. Every time I give it gas it down shifted and slowed further down. So I pull over and turn it off. Thinking it will reset. When I go to turn it back on it won't start. At this point I have 2 bars on my fuel gauge so about 3 gallons. Long story short, tow truck comes takes it to my house. I add about 3 gallons of 93 octane I had in the garage and it stared back up. I drive it to a gas station and top it off. The gauge reads only 75% full. I let it run for about 20 min and turn it off. Turned it back on and it started right up but the fuel gauge now reads only 55% and engine light still on.

Any ideas guys ?

I will be pulling the battery cables off tomorrow to see if the engine light will reset.

Since I'm not a mechanic my only thought is something fuel pump related. I'm not sure if the CX-3's assembly is a whole unit or separate parts, but fuel pump, fuel sender unit, fuel level sensor... I'd look at all of those, and I'd definitely try to see if they are still under warranty.

Yeah my thoughts also go to fuel pump or fuel filter related. I'm at 68k miles now, so way past my warranty.

Disconnected the battery today and got the engine light to go away and fuel gauge is back to normal now.

Anyone know where the fuel filter is on a cx3? Is it something that can be replaced or is it part of the fuel pump inside the tank?

It looks like the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Replacement filters are available but I'm not sure how easy they are to fit. Here is the part marked 3 in the diagram :-
