Hey guys and gals,

Got me a brand new CX3 and think I should paint my calipers to prevent them from looking like shiz a couple years down the road. So my question is....what is a good brand to use? what do you have experience with?

A lot of my gearhead buddies use this one:

And then there are these (not sure if the fitment is ok though, may be too close to the wheel):

The MGP caliper covers are all over the place as well but I don't like the look of the fake screws/bolts

Thanks for the reply's!! I don't think I would be a fan of the rattle can spray on caliper coating, would be concerned if everything wasn't masked off I could get over spray on parts I don't want over spray on. The brush on application seems like the way to go.

I will do some research on the G2 caliper paint and see where I can source it up in Canada.

After doing some more research on the G2 caliper paint I have read a couple people saying that with the brush on stuff it leaves paint brush streaks, anyone have any input on that?

Found a shop that will do all 4 calipers with 4 coats of the VHT paint for $100, not sure if I should just let someone else go through the pain of doing them or just do them myself with either the G2 or VHT spray

Honestly, I think setting aside a day, taking them off, clean, clean, clean, then spraying layers is always the best way to go whenever possible.
If you think about it, its a component that takes a lot of abuse from weathering, brake dust etc, so you may as well share some love with them haha.
You can even do the rear ones one day and the fronts another :)
IMO of course...

The reason I'm really leaning on doing it is because the car is brand new. I got less them 2000 KM on the car.
When I bought my Subaru new I wanted to do the calipers. I never ended up doing it and after 10 years of owning the car the calipers looked like poo poo.

Plus if the calipers are new they wont require much cleaning

This is true. Just the salt and grime from the winter wouldn't be too much of a feat I think.

If a user had streaks with a self-leveling paint, I'd say that is a user issue rather than a product issue. Ive used G2 twice and it worked very well. While i would not want brush streaks, I'd probably challenge myself to realize that when the wheels are on who is going to be down closely examining the calipers.

Go with G2. The paint from VHT, Plasticoat, etc. will chip off, even the brush on kind. The G2 paint gives you a nice durable epoxy finish that will stay on. It is worth the extra cost. Trust me.

If you are determined to use a spray, or even brush on from a different source, use an engine paint. Actually seems to work better and lasts longer due to its temperature resistant properties, plus solvent resistance, than the dedicated caliper paints. But seriously, just get the G2...
