For what it is worth we have just over 20K miles on my wife's 2016 CX3. My daughter has a 2017 with nearly 40K on it. No problems with either transmission so far...

So recently sold my OEM 18” rims to a man who owned a 2016 Mazda Cx3. What was interesting is that he told me he had a complete transmission failure, where it completely grenaded in stop and go traffic. I asked how many kilometres he had and was shocked by the little he did. (20,000 KM) Got me thinking I must be one of the few 2016 models with no problems... (Knock in wood) recently just hit over 80,000 Kms and everything has been routine maintenance. If honest little surprised, I drive my Cx3 like a rally car! I off-road it and drive quite spiritedly through the mountains almost on a daily occurrence. Raises the question has anyone with the 2016 model year have any problems besides the transmission?

Have a 2016 CX3 bought in the Fall of 2015. No problems at all and I drive in nasty Canadian Winters.

I am wondering if the problems happen to AWD cars or only to FWD ones. Anyone know?

Hmmm all very interesting... looks to be very random. Been trying to narrow down what models and year but there doesn’t seem to be any patterns. Overall have to say my Mazda has been leaps and bounds ahead of my 2008 Volkswagen GLI in regards to reliability. No real shocker I guess though.

I think the ongoing joke is that you can tell when theres a VW meet by the orange glow of their CEL on the horizon.

I have a 2016 CX-3 Maxx FWD 2.0L Auto. 67000 km. Started making a whining sound a few weeks ago. Took it to Mazda. Diagnosed auto transmission renewal required. Car-less for 8 days . Gearbox and transmission replaced and picked up today. I hope all is good now...........

Hi I had the gearbox replaced last year, when I returned from a trip on a straight road, the failure occurred. Fortunately, on the additional warranty, Mazda replaced it with a new one. The car from 2016 had a mileage at the time of failure of about 34,000 km. The breakdown consisted of a problem with starting, after switching to manual and starting from second gear, it continued to change gears automatically. I reached 250 km. to home.

Hey Guys,

First off, hope this doesn't happen to anyone here and this is a one off hiccup of these cars...

Secondly, absolutely love my CX-3... Have it since September '15 with about 8700 miles driven. Wifey and I like to travel a little bit. :)

The problem...
Live in NYC and went to PA for the weekend, as we do often (almost every weekend). This is roughly a 115-mile journey one way. On our way back home today, we were in the last leg of the journey, about to cross the GWB when we hit some heavy bumper to bumper traffic. At this point, we stopped the car, as one would in such traffic, waited until everything motioned so that we can start rolling up. Release the brake to roll forward, nothing.. Thought that due to the incline, I would need to push the gas - nothing, just revs... and then it would grip, jerk and go. Once I thought it was the transmission, I didn't rev as I didn't want to cause more damage. Waited for the tranny to grab hold and start rolling.

At a steady slow roll, I crossed the GWB only to call Mazda roadside while parked on the side of the road in Harlem, to get towed to the nearest dealer. (It's a Sunday, all service departments are closed - have to head out tomorrow (Monday) morning)...

At this point, when in drive, it takes about 30-45 seconds for drive to engage. When on an incline, it will roll downhill and drive will engage after the 30-45 second mark. No other slips, all other gears seem to be fine, driving at speeds appears to not be affected - only the initial release from neutral... Reverse is not affected...

Either way - just wondering if someone experienced this? Is this normal? Why would it take so long for the transmission to engage after jumping into neutral on stop?

Saddest part was sitting in the cab behind my baby getting towed... :( Still looked great. :p
