This would depend on how important your cup holders are to you. There have been tons of forum discussion on it.
For the North Americas there is just a rest over the cups, no storage.
EU/Aus rests go over the holders but have storage.
eBay/Amazon have lots but the base of the armrest seems to always cover at least one of the cup holders. The only non-manufacturers rests I’ve seen that look to be decent are the “Armster 2” out of the UK.
All of them above tilt upwards to some degree.
Again, if you like you mocha choco latte ya ya’s while driving then maybe just don’t install one lol.

Im really debating the "armster 2" type ones but I have yet to see a legitimate installed pictures and usage besides one Malaysian youtuber doing a quick install. Im not sure how much more stable and better quality it is compared to the oem one for the price.

Yes same for me. On my road trip I got used to a rest not being there but would have still liked one. Upside is I rested hand/arm on the GFs lap heheh!
The one thing with the OEMs is the bracket underneath. Tedious but so necessary.
But....the armsters do seem to be of a pretty good quality and not a knock off. Perhaps I’ll email the company direct and ask how it is installed to gauge the stability.
They’ve also come down a bit in price on eBay it seems as well...

Interesting, I seem to have found 2 different versions which I assumed were the same thing.

This one has subaru stars around the back slot and requires 4 drilled holes which I thought was standard for this 'model'

This guy however is put on with double sided tape I presume and the screws are only for baseplate to armrest connector? Side design around back is also different.

This is a video I was talking about which was apparently referring to the second version. Even so I dont think I would trust double sided tape for this job especially considering the movement that happens when he rests his arm on it.

I like the overall design of this product; good versatility and intrigues me into looking into it further as a replacement. My main question is durability; how will it hold up (and stay attached to the center console) since armrests usually get rigorously used. Even in the video, you can see the unit flex when he puts his arm on it and he does not appear to be putting a whole lot of pressure to it; certainly not his entire weight. For the stock USA one (the phone-holder version) which came with mine, I employ a properly-sized (meaning correct height) aluminum coffee mug in the forward cup holder to act as a brace. This allows full weight on the stock armrest if I want. Has worked beautifully since day one.

I. have now had this armrest since early 2017 and love it.

Simple, easy to install and it sits perfectly for my arm...

Got it online from Italy.

Covered on page 11 of my build thread.

Hi guys,

This armrest seems the best compromise of all, like Craigh I don't want to drill the console, and I'm particulary looking for the correct height armrest as my driving position is set on the lowest.

It's quite bulky indeed but I love that there's only one material showing and the design is clean withtout any cheap plastics showing.

I have one question though, is it solid ? I mean 3 screws set on plastic feels quite light as your arms is set on it most of the time, with less pressure than the Mazda one, but still.

Can you tell us if the armrest is still in flawless, Craigh ? :)

I'm on the way to order the same setup of yours, black leather + red stitching to match the seats.

Hi Vincent, I have sold the CX3 now but the armrest stood up very well even though it is only attached as you describe.
i would not apply full body force to it but in normal use by myself and family no one commented on it not being secure.
even the factory one moves around a bit.

Hi Craig and thanks for the reply, I was pretty confident it would be strong enough to support elbow/arm without harsh body support, can’t wait to receive mine.
I hope you had great fun with your CX3, coming from the Fiesta ST Line mk8, I love that new ride, very confortable and fun when needed :)

I installed the OEM with storage that it is available in other international markets. It is a nice armrest. The cushion is nice and plush and it doesn't squeek. It slides forward for more forearm support, and you can also adjust the tilt to fit your shoulder-to-elbow lenght. Installation was okay. The drilling was easy part. The difficult part was getting the screws into the tiny compartment.
