In the US. Not so overseas. In your owners manual you'll see that dinky headunit that is offered in the base Mazda3What would be the point? All trims include the rear view camera.
The orig. camera in mine works fine with the drivers door open....
Should the camera work if one of the doors is open?
...
Surely it needs a trigger to switch to the video feed from, say, the map or radio screen and back again?. . .It shouldn't need any trigger wire from reversing light. . .
As shown in this video all the 4 wires needed are present in the tail gate, i have also read in mazda 3 forum some people have succesfully installed backup camera in their cars by connecting the 4 camera wires to 4 wires of tail gate connector which are already there, so you dont have to pull camera wires all the way from the back of CMU, and it is alot cheaper than ordering the full kit. you just order a 6V backup camera and connect it to those 4 wires.I understood that the trigger wire is already connected and only thing that is needed is video signal on MZD boot up.
In Finland OEM Mazda camera is 600 € including mounting. And they don't want to sell it without mounting.
Haven't found oem set on eBay. Don't know how much it would cost and where to get it.
This looks like a good set but i guess it isn't for sale yet: .: Mobiletech - Ventura technology, VT-MAZDACX-3CAM-05,2016-2017 Mazda CX-3 Reverse Backup Camera Interface Kit
All connection are made inside the rear hatch.

Have you found any 6V aftermarket cameras? As shown in this video all the 4 wires needed are present in the tail gate, i have also read in mazda 3 forum some people have succesfully installed backup camera in their cars by connecting the 4 camera wires to 4 wires of tail gate connector which are already there, so you dont have to pull camera wires all the way from the back of CMU, and it is alot cheaper than ordering the full kit. you just order a 6V backup camera and connect it to those 4 wires.
the 4 wires in mazda 3 are:
White: 6VDC
Red: Camera ground
Black: Camera signal (the yellow wire from the camera)
Dark gray: 6 VDC Ground
I am wondering if the wires have the same colors in mazda cx-3, has someone tried this?
Yes I have and it fits cx-3 camera hole: SINOSMART In Stock Car Reversing Parking Camera for Mazda CX 3 2016 Install in Factory Original Camera Hole Mirror Image-in Vehicle Camera from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba GroupHave you found any 6V aftermarket cameras?
Here is a photo of the connector in the tail gate.
Sorry, don't have any other pictures.Have you taken any closer pictures of that connector to see if there are 4 wires that are not used like in the mazda 3?
It looks like there are all the 4 wires on the first picture, you have got white, brown, black and red, i think the brown is instead of dark gray (in mazda 3),is it one of these wires that is empty in the other connector? i think you should follow these lines to the back door they might lead to a 4 pin connector close to camera hole, if it does, then you will only need to connect camera wires to that connector. otherwise try to test these wires with a tester and see if you get fx. 6V+ on the white wire. Here are socked pictures. Only 1 cable is empty and I was not able to find the video cable in there.
Do you have any idea about coloring of the camera cables?
I believe it is different than Mazda 3.
I don't think you will damage your infotainment, if you have a volt meter you should check the voltage of the wires and find out which one is 6V+ I think it is the white one like in Mazda 3, the black wire is for the video signal and red is for camera 6v-3rd picture is opposite part. Only 1 channel is empty and I took it off the trunk parts and couldn't find the camera socket.
On youtube I saw that Ventura electronics made a cable for the CX-3 but not sure of if my vehicle comes with that cable types.
Also, I alraedy have a 6V camera but not sure to connect until I know correct positions in order to not the damage multimedia.
It is weird that you are missing the 6V dc wire, maybe the wires are not connected to the infotainment system, like I saw a video of Mazda cx-5 backup camera, the guy had the camera wires in the tailgate but they were not connected to the infotainment system, so he ran these wires from the back of the infotainment system to the wires that goes to tailgate from near the fuse box and then connected the camera.I know you are right. I have already completed folding mirror with one-touch up and down(inc remote) windows.
Now next thing is camera then I will move on to free Navigation by building your own sd card. Last thing is the auto-lock doors also =)
I tried to test the connector with & without ingnation off to find the Voltage about 5 V but I couldn't find it. Connectors are located under the liftgate cap which is easy to remove. Since, the cables that Mazda 3 has different connection wires , I thought that I would harm something. Also, I believe my friends voltmeter was broken.
Also, be carefull with the door pins and buy them before removing the door trim because most of them breaks.
