Spy Shots of the Next-Generation Mazda3 Hatch

It appears like the Mazda3 hatchback is going through some testing and it has been spied out on the road. While the spy shots don't have a clear shot of the front, the overall shape does look like the Mazda3.

The one thing that is strange is the triangle window by the a-pillar.

It has also been posited that this could be a GM prototype.

The 3 is still early in its latest product cycle. Seems unlikely a prototype for the next gen is already being shaken down. Sure looks like a Mazda but more like the previous generation than the present. Source?

That's what I was thinking, the 3 just happened, sedan and hatch.

This could be them testing some other vehicle and disguising it as the Mazda 3

I could be wrong.

One person said it could be a 2016 Opel/Vauxhall Astra hatchback

There is a striking similarity to the 3, particularly in the roofline and shape of the windows. Headlights also seem the follow the same shape. Different bumpers for sure, but that's pretty typical for mules.

I took a couple pictures of my 3 for comparison:

There is a little plastic triangle in the corner of the A pillar, but it's slightly smaller than in that picture. I also can't tell if that is opaque or clear from the photos. To be honest, that rather reminds me of the windows on the Subaru Impreza, but nothing else about the car really does. An Opel/Vauxhall Astra could be just as likely.

EDIT:
Scratch everything I said. I'm pretty sure that this is an Opel/Vauxhall Astra now:

In that case this is something GM related.

I know they're loving this since they have everyone guessing what it could be, spending ALL that time trying to figure it out.
