Duke Engines

Came across this story on Duke Engines. When watching it I thought, this is just the type on engine that I would expect Mazda to be into. (Like the Rotary).

Anyway, I think some of you may be quite interested, as I was.

Obviously it would be better to see an independent video/review of this type of engine and not a fluff piece by the manufacturer. There must be a reason this engine hasn't caught on.

This is not really a new type of engine anyway, axial engines have existed for a long time, their applications are mainly in other fields than automotive though. I guess this Duke company attempted to create an axial engine for cars.

It is new in the the Pistons stand on a wobble plate rather then outwards like daisy petals but it would look different dressed with all the auxiliaries like alternator and A/C pump etc and you would have to some numbers. If somebody approaches a manufacturer they have to have masses of test information, controlled (tight) in house testing and extended field trials in large numbers in similar applications. It costs lots of money and takes lots of time and without it, most manufacturers wouldn't let you inside the door.

Currently CX5 SportNav 2.2 diesel automatic and AWD.
Formerly CX3 SportNav 1.5 diesel automatic and AWD.
