Mazda MPS?

They're considering a performance arm and the 2 is the first candidate, could CX-3 also benefit?

Quote:
Doi said MPS was “not dead” and the firm was evaluating how it could further extend its ‘fun to drive’ mantra with a new MPS performance model, of which the 2 was one likely candidate for the treatment.

The firm has yet to establish exactly what an MPS model will be under the Skyactiv range of cars. The firm could opt for purely more powerful models or models that place an emphasis on improved driveability like the Suzuki Swift Sport, or a combination of both like the Ford Fiesta ST.

I see the CX-3 being not nearly as much of a priority as other models that they have, but it would be nice to see something done with the CX-3's performance. What do you think the chances are of that happening?

Well the CX3 is in what is supposed to be one of the most popular segments right now. That seems like a good reason to prioritize it for a performance treatment. I would at least see it as a possibility.

I would love to see a HI PO version, but at my state of maturity, wouldn't be interested in anything as raw as the old MS3, with road noise , torque steer and limited traction. The factory had to limit first gear pwr to cope with wheel spin and axle tramp. The all wheel drive available on the CX3 might help some of those shortcomings, but I would settle for a mildly boosted 2.0 for a 180/200 hp with a limited slip diff and front drive to keep it light and cheap, without too much of a fuel economy hit.

They badly need a boosted 2.0 for the MX5 anyway and that chassis could easily deal with turning up the boost to provide 250-270 hp.
Such an engine IS coming for the next MS3, so I'm hoping it will be available at an appropriate power level throughout the product line. To simplify matters Mazda could then drop the 2.5.

Regardless of the weight reduction, The pwr rating of 155 for the MX5 is disappointing. ARE YOU LISTENING MAZDA?.

Even if this just happens and they keep it mild, I would go for it:

It looks good here. I think they could add a bit by just making the spoiler a slight bit more prominent.

Not aggressive enough to me
Aero, wheels, and even the use of body color needs to scream 'zoom zoom' more.

Now that is along the lines of what I would want to see...something that pops more.
