Gauge Bezel Cover

I was somewhat amused to find that the panel that goes over the gauges, that has the appearance of being covered in vinyl etc is is fact not....

I noticed some fine blistering near its side edges in days that were nearing 40 degrees a few weeks back so had a closer look.

In fact I removed it to work out what was going only to find it is a moulded panel with some form of stitching either pressed in on the front edge or cast as part of it then its sprayed with a textured vinyl paint.

The edges had thicker paint and it had softened in the heat.

I feel a bit cheated :-)

I may decide to get it covered in leather with red stitching and do the steering wheel at same time. Lets see what the price is first :-)

I appreciate that Mazda tried to emulate the leather clad dash tops that are all the rage on many luxury models by adding some faux stitching. Its a nicer touch and more visually appealing then just plain molded plastic.
