Rear Seat Belt Issues

Hi All,

First time poster and a bit of a long time lurker.

I have been having an issue with my rear seat belts for a few months but now have come to a problem.

Originally when I would have people in my back seats the seat belt's......either side didn't seem to matter, would stay some what elongated after use for hours or even a day on the worst case then would slowly recline and be back to normal. As I don't have people in my back seat all that often this wasn't too much of an issue just annoying.

Now just over a week ago I had 2 people in my back seat and have got an issue, One seat belt never reclined and is now locked fully extended as the passenger wasn't sure what was going on then yanked it all the way out on his way out and it is locked in place even if I try feed it back in slowly.......It was go back in but if you pull it just all comes out again and never reclines. The other seat belt is having the same issue as previous but now doesn't fully recline it still has slack in it (more so then usual). I have searched high and low and am unsure if this is some sort of easy fix that I cannot figure out? I have read about the autolocking for the baby seat but cannot see how to unlock it etc.

Is there something I am missing that will unlock my seat belt? I can't seem to fix either of them. The other thing is how do I get the back compartments where the seat belt mechanism is held apart so I can look at the mechanism and inspect any damage? I don't want to go to my dealer just yet as they charge arm's and legs so want to attempt to fix myself before going to them.

Thanks in Advance,
Brendan

Hello Brendan,

I had they same issue with both the rear seat belts. My car has just gone out of the three year warranty when this happened. I booked the car in at a Mazda dealer where I bought it from new. Both the seat belts were replaced under a Mazda Australia warranty. It seems like this could be a possible recall for the CX-3's as it is a very serious safety issue in my opinion.

Cheers
Jan
