crossbar on undercarriage identification

Do you know what the little bar across the resonator does? does it just hold the resonator in place? is it for rigidity? is it to absorb and prevent damage to the under carriage in case you curb your car?

it's the lowest point of the car.

Thanks in advance.

as you have answered your own question, it is there for protection, so you don't rip your exhaust/resonator off.

I can tell you that I have lowered my car by nearly 50mm and not once has it ever hit anything.

Hope that this has helped.
