Apple Car Play - Careful what you wish for!

I finally found a thorough review of Apple's much touted "Car Play" interface for new vehicles and third party head units. The review was anything but flattering!

CarPlay Offers Limited, Glitchy iPhone/Auto Integration

I think I'll wait even if Mazda modifies its panel to allow for Car Play.

Being a new technology, there will obviously be some glitches, but updates should come frequently.

The most important feature for me when it comes to CarPlay or Android Auto is the navigation integration (which according to that review works very well with CarPlay). Google Maps is far superior to any in-car navigation software. It offers live traffic no matter what road you're on, while many cars that offer live traffic (which costs a monthly fee) only give you traffic information for major highways. Also, the maps are updated much more frequently and do not cost any money to update. To me, right now even a glitchy CarPlay/Android Auto is better than nothing, since Mazda doesn't offer connected services anymore in North America.

By the time Mazda offers it, which they still say "we don't know when its coming", it'll work much better.

If all your after is google maps why don't you investigate one of the kits that allows the video output of a device (android etc) to be displayed on the Mazda screen.

That way it's all your phone doing the work and the cx3 just provides a screen to display it.

The concept of an app within the car manufacturers app seems a little awkward to me.

But I imagine that's the only way they could do it as every manufacturer does their interface differently.

Would be good if Mazda could get the existing simple integration with iOS and android to work perfectly and not be so slow.

As with anything they will all be rushing to tick the box so buyers will move on to next block from buying a car.

Will be many releases if ever for it to perfected and only in the "next model"

That's what Android Auto does lol. Your phone does the work, but you use your cars controls.
