Fuse Tap

Good evening fellow members,
I am planning on installing a trailer hitch on my CX-3. I have researched the T wiring for the trailer and noticed that the CX-3 requires a direct connection to the battery but not the CX-5. Why is this ? Also if I must connect to the battery can I use a fuse tap instead, to the inside fuse box, so I do not have to pass a wire through the firewall ? Are the fuses on the CX-3 Mini fuses or regular ? If I can which might be the best fuse to tap into ? I am planning on purchasing the Curt 56300 T wiring. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also advice from ancorman would be informative. Thanks in advance.

I used Erich Jaeger wiring kit and it didn't need to be connected directly to the battery.
Main power was connected to the in cabin fuse box.
