Question My CD player no longer works and the car no longer thinks it exists

Hi Folks!

I played a CD last week in my car. This week, not only can I not play or eject said CD, but "CD" is no longer a visible option in the list of my audio sources. I still see FM, USB, etc., but no CD.

So! My CD is stuck in there and the car is all "CD who now? Never heard of it."

Any tips?

P.S. Before you razz me for using obsolete media: I volunteer at a small radio station and record to what's available.

P.P.S. I love this car and this is not an enraging issue (I just realized my post's title sounded cranky). His 5,000 mile check up / oil change is due soon, so I can bring up the problem then, but I'd love to rescue my CD if I can. And even use the CD player again.

I would leave it for the techies at your dealership. They probably have a command line bit of code that will instruct the player to eject. I definitely would not pick up a pair of pliers and try and grab the disk and yank it out (goodbye CD player!)

Using the same logic as on my computer when a disk gets stuck I use all the commands available to instruct the player to eject the disk. (hold down the mouse button, push the eject key and so on. One usually works.) So using the same logic I would turn off the car, then hold in the eject button while starting up the car and see what happens. It probably won't work, but it is worth a try.

I think a hard reset is worth a try. Press and hold the mute, nav and back buttons for more than 10 seconds. The system will reboot.

Just a wild guess, but it sounds like the CD player module has died or possibly has a problem with the wiring harness (pushed pin on a connector during assembly, maybe). No power to the drive would likely present as the drive being missing from the audio source menu. The dealer will likely need to replace the drive and/or the wire harness connecting to the entertainment system. If you're lucky and it's only a bad wiring connection, possibly the parts can be saved if it's just a pushed pin or if something came unplugged somehow.

And this is why I love this message board. Thanks much to all of you.

I'll start with holding the eject button during start-up, and if there's no joy there, I'll move on to a reset. Next step after that would be the dreaded dealership.

(I'll hold off on the pliers, vacuum, etc., until I've reached a commensurate level of rage -- worthy of the frustration generated by several failed fix attempts. )

I'm keeping my fingers/wheels crossed that the reset works.

Update:
Okie doke, none of the tricks above has worked, so I'll take Manuel into the dealership soon and will ask them to fix up his infotainment center while he gets his 5,000 mile service.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback, folks.
