GPS Display

Anyone know of a way to change the information showing on the Nav screen? I'd love to have altitude showing on there as I've had it on my Garmin in previous cars for the past 10+ years and miss the info.

I gather there's a way to re-flash the firmware but that seems a little drastic, potentially problematic, and possibly a touch frowned upon by dealer support.

I'm more interested to see if anyone has looked at cleartext settings on the SD card perhaps.
Cheers,
G.

My BMW's system showed altitude. I thought it was an interesting feature along with the longitude and latitude display. Brought out my inner nerd

Always like the option to see additional information, especially as it's already recorded by the unit. When driving through hill country in winter it's interesting to check altitude vs temperature change. The geek in me is itching to get at the GPS config!!

Before I got a GPS card, the display showed altitude. I know that doesn't help, but ...

Just bumping this thread - I'd still like to see altitude on the display as well as the GPS-recorded speed. The HUD and dash speed display is based on tyres and is a good 2-3 Kph different (slower).

Anyone tried this?

To display the altitude and GPS calculated speed on the full screen map you would have to install firmware hacks (sometimes called tweaks), it's not something that can be turned on or off in settings. There are topics regarding tweaks over on the mazda3revolution.com forum if you're feeling brave.

Without hacks, you can view your altitude under a narrow section of the map as you drive, by selecting the "Where am I?" option from the map screen.

P.S: I don't know what the rules are in other countries, but in the UK a vehicle's speedometer reading is not allowed to be lower than the actual speed, it has to be accurate or over-read by no more than about 110% of actual speed.

Thanks for that - seen the WhereAmI option when first got the car last year but hadn't seen the altitude. Not as good as a constant display but at least it can be made visible with a couple of clicks.
