Buff scratch in windshield glass?

I've never had the misfortune of this happening even though I've had various vehicles over the years.
I've managed to get a tiny piece, I am guessing, of sand or grit on my windshield blade wiper. I noticed it today and cleaned the wiper but have a very fine half moon where the wiper has traveled. GAH.

Before I do anything else I thought I would check in here. Has anyone dealt with this before?

You can't really buff out scratches in glass. Additionally, glass with a flaw is prone to breaking at that flaw. Many insurance companies will pay to repair or replace windshield glass with defects like this so you should get in touch with them about it.
