Where is the CD Player?

I can't believe that there is no CD player in the top of the line GT model! When I tried to insert a CD in what looks like a CD slot I found that it is a dummy plate and nothing can get in there. It is misleading because it has the little light on the top of the slot. But when I looked in the Music menu items, CD player is nowhere to be found.

However, I was able to back up much of my CD library on to a SD card and I am using a card reader plugged into one of the USB ports. It displays and plays just fine.

I still have not heard an explanation as to why a CD player is missing on the CX3 GT.

I've not used CD's since 2008 so I've not attempted to insert one but according to the specs, there is an actual CD player in the GT trim. Its not just a dummy plate. If your discs were unable to be inserted, maybe your player is defective?

Another regional difference. Mine has a CD player. Probably to cater for an old Luddite like me.

Currently CX5 SportNav 2.2 diesel automatic and AWD.
Formerly CX3 SportNav 1.5 diesel automatic and AWD.

False alarm! The problem is the ham-handed way I am used to inserting CD's. With this player you have to angle it slightly downward and use several thrusts to get it right. Trying to insert it straight in will not work (at least not for me).

Anyhow, as most subscribers here point out, it is a technology that is beyond its time and I could understand if this car came without one. But I am glad of the USB ports and the fact that you can back your music library on to a good sized SD card and use a simple card reader. The Audio system is smart enough that most searches will work to get at the music you are wanting to listen to (to heck with paying a subscription to XM for the privilege of having them do it for you).

Yes it is an odd angle to insert - took me a few tries the first time.
Old technology but if you save mp3 files on CD .. that's a lot of music.

I haven't used the CD player yet, and I probably won't. I've been using XM for now, it is free until the end of January for me. I might keep the subscription going after that, if not, Pandora works very well too.

Do you carry around a huge binder of all your CDs in alphabetical order too? :P

I will say that I think its worth the time to just put everything on your phone or a USB. Cuts down on so much time switching between discs and you also can the option of so much more music.

Use a folded matchbook to shim the 8-Track tape and improve playback reliability. I still have a Three Dog Night greatest hits 8-track tape. Joy to the World...

If I'm gonna go old-fashioned, I'll choose vinyl. All the rest just don't matter. :P
